The annual fund raiser tournament for aiding families with children who have medical needs has been announced and will take place on November 6, 2021 launching from The Horseshoe Marina on the Black River Lake Complex. The marina is located at 3878 Hwy 129 in Monterey, La.
The payout of $3,000 for first place based on 60 boats is sure to draw numbers. Being it’s the 6th year of the tournament solidifies this as a tournament you do not want to miss in the Miss-Lou area. Anglers from across the state will come battle for the prize money and enjoy the great atmosphere, competition, and comradery that Shane Smith, Brennen Russel and others have created in this annual event.
The complex itself offers a variety of fishing options. From the bayous and smaller run offs to the oxbow “Lake Cocodrie”, aka Horseshoe, to the long winding Black River Lake once part of the Black River.
The complex has plenty of room and structure for the near 100 boats that will show up to compete.

The tournament started when a close friend’s daughter was diagnosed with a tragic childhood illness. Brennen and Waylon Book knew they could help with a fund raiser bass tournament. Over the years the tournament fundraiser has grown to include many other opportunities to raise money but still it’s all for the families battling illnesses and the financial struggles associated with doctor and hospital related costs.
The tournament had grown to include silent auctions, live auctions, food and entertainment but in light of the current concerns for everyone’s safety this year will be the fishing tournament only. That will not dampen the spirits of the anglers or the organizers as the cause is still very much a good one to rally behind.
