Bass fishing is growing. I’m not sure if you have noticed but the sport is no longer just the same ten guys in matching boats fishing on Sunday afternoons in some dead television time frame. The sport is growing in the professional ranks, the college ranks, and is booming in the high school levels as well. In Louisiana, it has been said there are 4 seasons, hunting, football, summer and crawfish. Well I’m here to tell you regardless of which season it is, it’s always fishing season!
The Central Wildcats High School Bass Team never takes a break. This fishing season has started and the club has held an interclub tournament on September 26 at False River as well as participated in the 2020 Louisiana Bass Nation Qualifier on September 12 out of Doiron’s Landing in Morgan City, La. The interclub tournament results were:
1st Place - 5 fish - 8.50# Scott Lemmler and Dakota Stewart
2nd Place - 4 fish - 8.15# Luke Miller and Jacob Tullier
3rd Place - 3 fish - 5.79# Robby Wells and Logan Landry
Big Bass - 2.90# - Luke Miller
In all 25 fish were caught for a total of 44.20lbs with all fish released back into their home alive to be caught another day. That’s a great day on False River!

The team is currently getting ready for the Louisiana Bass Nation High School North Fall Qualifier on the Red River launching from Grand Ecore RV Park in Natchitoches, La. Coach Philip Lemmler is expecting 8 teams to participate in the open next weekend.
There will be plenty of fishing this year for the Central Wildcats as more local and interclub tournaments will be held as well as additional opens to qualify for the state championship. However, Central isn’t yet finished with last season.
The CHS fishing team finished last year off by capturing the state championship title along with two state qualifier championships, and in doing so four teammates qualified to compete for the National Championship in Paris, Tennessee on Kentucky Lake. The 2020 Mossy Oak Fishing Bassmaster High School Championship presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors is Oct. 22-24 and Central High School will have 2 teams fishing for the big prize of a national championship. Connor Rushing and Ethan Simon along with Cayden Walls and Connor Moulin will represent Central High in the ultimate high school fishing endeavor!
We look forward to covering and checking in with the Wildcat’s Bass Fishing Team this year.
Running a bass fishing club is no easy task, especially to run it correctly. Philip Lemmler and his dedicated team support group do an excellent job. Coach says, “We have the absolute best kids and parents on this team.” This is evident not only in the wins but in the participation and enjoyment the kids get out of bass fishing. It is not cheap by any means. Many local and some not so local businesses have stepped up to help and the Wildcats appreciate the support.
