Crickett’s Hide A Way, a long time staple in Gilbert, Louisiana is sitting just off Hwy 15 next door to Boone’s Grocery.  Literally just off the side of the beaten path, Crickett’s Hide A Way is more a destination than a hideaway.  For anyone venturing to bait some bass, or really any other kind of fishing on the area lakes, Crickett’s is a one-stop-shop to get you on the water.  Not just limited to fishing, Crickett’s is an outdoorsmen’s supply house with staples for all of your hunting, fishing, and outdoor supply needs.

We found this gem of a bait, tackle, hunting and fishing “Hide A Way” by word of mouth from a Bassin’ in the Boot friend, Mr. Cody Jones.  Cody knows we run the roads through Gilbert quite often with half of our basis in Vidalia, LA and the other half in Bossier City, LA, Gilbert is an area we pass through several times a month.  Knowing that, Cody kept telling me, “On your way through Gilbert, stop and check them out.  They have a lot of stuff in the store.”  So, one day on my way through with a little time to spare I did just that and had a great visit with Mrs. Crickett herself.

At first glance when you walk in you quickly realize this store is full of hunting, fishing, and outdoor supplies with a wide selection of bass baits and tackle for the area anglers.  A welcomed view as we stopped in to visit.  Likewise, for many, especially those in the area heading to Turkey Creek, Yucatan or other nearby lakes, Crickett’s is truly THE one stop shop for all of their fishing needs.

Even though we travel through the Gilbert area often, the times we come through aren’t usually those associated with business hours.  But with early mornings and late afternoons for anglers and outdoorsmen, Crickett’s keeps a 5am to 5pm schedule daily.  So my first time through during business hours I stopped by and visited with Mrs. Crickett.  While our visit was brief, she left us knowing that Crickett’s Hide A Way was not just a hobby or business, but something a little closer to heart.  With an impression that she could out fish or out hunt most folks around, I have no doubts the products and advice from a local shop are just what you need for a successful trip Bassin’ the area lakes.  We talked about a few fishing spots and what baits and lures we liked to throw.  We discussed Yucatan and how we each had a club tournament coming up there.  And while she didn’t give up any secret spots or prized lures to use, she certainly assured me there were big fish there.

At Bassin’ in the Boot this is the exact kind of location we love to find.  Small hometown folks bringing quality products to their area.  Crickett’s is just that.  With shelves stocked full of everything from crappie jigs to bass flipping baits to hunting wear you can find most all necessities here for your outdoor adventures.  If you can’t, just ask Mrs. Crickett and she will get it for you.  That’s the service you can only find with a hometown local shop!

Remember this new year to support your local shops.  This supports your local economy and helps ensure the success of your neighbor.  The next time you’re in the Gilbert area, whether passing through, or heading to one of the nearby popular spots like Turkey Creek or Yucatan, be sure to stop by and get the latest info and best baits from Crickett’s Hide A Way, and make sure you tell them Bassin’ In The Boot sent you!
