Uncle Bud's Cabins
On Larto Lake
February 2020, Volume 110
Ever want to get away? Ever want to take a weekend or a midweek trip somewhere and just leave all the hustle and bustle of life behind for a few days and enjoy the peace and quite that is only found on a lake? Most of the time I find places like this because of some tournament that we are fishing that is just a touch too far to drive from either my house or my brother’s house. This particular tournament was one hosted by Concordia Bass Club on January 18th on Larto Lake at the southern end of Catahoula Parish.
I have made the trip to Larto several times and it is just over an hour drive from the house. In preparation for an after tournament meeting in Alexandria, I elected to get a cabin for the night at Uncle Bud’s on Larto Lake. I made the call and reserved the 2 double bed room opting to skip the early morning drive to the ramp. I was instructed that check in was at 1 o’clock and to just stop by the shop upon arrival.
I pulled up about 1:30 and called the number on the door and soon the owner walked over from the house next door. She was friendly as always and knew I was there to check in. She told me of the amenities (tv, free boat launch, use of boat slips) and that the key was in the room. We talked a few more minutes and I was off to the cabin to change clothes and do what I was there for, Geaux Bassin!
I opened the door of the cabin and I was pleasantly surprised at the simple yet adequate accommodations. Two double beds, small kitchen on the far wall, bathroom door in the back left corner. Tongue and groove wood on the walls and ceilings with ceramic tile on the floor. A typical rustic look framed by a metal façade. Small front porch complete with rocking chair facing the road and the lake ensured a place of serenity to relax and enjoy the area. Unfortunately I was not going to take advantage of the rocker, I was headed straight to the boat ramp.

Uncle Bud’s offers two ramps to use, one on each side of the office. The two boat launches straddle the floating dock with numerous boat slips, fish cleaning station, and sitting area – all available for patrons to use during their stay. The owners are hands on, friendly, and treat you like life long friends from day one; and although it did me little good they were glad to offer fishing advice!
The next time you want to get away, do a little cabin camping, fish a great lake, or just hang out in nature, pack an ice chest, bring some charcoal, and drive to 2436 Hwy 3102 in Jonesville, La and stay at Uncle Bud’s Cabins on Larto Lake. We highly recommend it, but don’t just take our word, read the reviews on their Facebook page where you will find comments like, “Beautiful place to stay”, “great place to fish and camp”, “We had a great time at Uncle Bud’s.” Give the guys at Uncle Bud’s a call at 318-339-7530 and Geaux Bassin’ in the Boot!
